In 1983, The Ritz-Carlton Hotel Company, LLC was formed. In 1998, the success of The Ritz-Carlton Hotel Company led to its acquisition by Marriott International. Since then Ritz Carlton has opened dozens of new hotels around the globe. The Ritz Carlton Shenzhen was a joint venture between a Chinese developer and the Ritz Carlton group. Merx was appointed as Project Managers and Site Co-ordinators under Rider Hunt Levett and Bucknall, who were the client representative and cost managers.
