8 Steps to Successful Project Management

Merx Octagon identifies 8 key steps to delivering every project successfully with each step containing control procedures and processes tailored to the unique circumstances of the project. As a consistent delivery system, Merx Octagon allows full client visibility throughout and identifies key approval gateways required to ensure effective time management and budgetary control.

Step 1 – Initiation

In the initiation stage, our project and cost managers work closely with clients to outline a thorough and highly detailed brief with clearly defined project goals.

Step 2 – Communication

The Merx Octagon system consolidates all communication to one central online portal, giving clients direct access to live and ‘up to the minute’ project information.

Step 3 – Programme

In the programme stage of Octagon, we ensure that all projects are planned thoroughly with detailed timelines highlighting critical tasks and dependencies.

Using Microsoft Project software, we develop the master programme and risk assessment analysis, detailing resource planning, phasing and opening/move dates.

Step 4 – Cost

Merx Octagon also includes in-house systems used to prepare detailed budgets based on the design and technical details of each project. This helps clients assess cost options and finalise the overall project budget.

Step 5 – Design

As all projects have their unique set of design specifications and desired commercial objectives, the communication and understanding between all design elements and contractors becomes critical to the project’s overall success.

Step 6 – Procurement

Traditionally, there are 4 main methods of procurement on construction projects. The Octagon system helps identify and support the method that is best for each situation, taking into consideration each projects unique circumstance and desired outcomes.

Step 7 – Construction
